DAY
1, Fri* Arrive in Tallahassee.
We will have an informal shoot this afternoon (for those who
can make it). In the evening, we will have an orientation meeting, and introduction to the
workshop. After dinner (dutch treat at a local restaurant) we
will discuss photography issues and or agenda for tomorrow. We will have
an informal photo critique of the afternoon pre-workshop images you have
created.
DAY 2, Sat This morning we will set out
early on a walk that will take us to a number of different wonderful
shooting locations, to catch that wonderful morning light in the forest
at Maclay gardens. After our
morning shoot, you will have free time to explore the park. We will
convene for lunch at 12:00 noon (in the park--location TBA).
After lunch we will discuss various technical and creative issues
regarding digital photography, nature photography and macro photography.
Mid afternoon we will take a photo-walk through the magnificent Gardens
at Maclay park. This will afford an opportunity for participants to make
photographs of Tallahassee's truly special springtime flora & fauna.
We will offer critique for your photographs late in the afternoon, and
will of course make more photographs leading up to sunset.
This evening we will have a wrap-up session at diner (dutch treat at a local restaurant).
Tonight or Sunday; Return home, mid-day, at your discretion.
| About the Gardens & the Park: These beautiful
ornamental gardens were first planted in 1923 by Alfred B.
and Louise Maclay after they purchased the property for
their winter home. A masterpiece of floral architecture, the
gardens feature a picturesque brick walkway, a secret
garden, a reflection pool, a walled garden, and hundreds of
azaleas and camellias. Lake Hall provides opportunities for
swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Only boats without
motors or with electric motors are allowed. Pavilions and
grills along the lake shore provide the perfect setting for
a picnic. For walking enthusiasts, two short nature trails
meander through the woods overlooking the lake. Hikers,
bicyclists, and equestrians can enjoy five miles of
multi-use trails winding through the woods surrounding Lake
Overstreet, located on park property adjoining the gardens.
High blooming season is from January 1-April 30 with the
floral peak in mid-to-late March.
